Nero 9,10 and 11 Recovery Agent not working

I have been using Nero 9 since it was releases but never had the need to use the recovery tool. I purchased Nero 10 to out on my new ASUS N53SV laptop but did not put it on until recently as I was still using Nero 9 to do what I needed on my old laptop.
Whilst copying and deleting data from hard drives and computers at home and work I accidently deleted a large folder on an external hard drive.
So I then installed Nero 10 on the new lap top and tried their recovery program(RescueAgent) ran the quick scan and it ran for days and then came up with a Windows runtime error and then closed...
So I ran the deep scan and then after 15 minutes a window came up that Rescue Agent in counted an error and had to close and just closed...
Closed internet explorer, Norton's 360 and into msconfig and closed programs. Installed software :- register cleaner and windows error fixing and software compatibility fixing program... Tried everything still keeps closing.
I tried rescue agent on my other lap top and desktop BOTH Nero 9 and 10 rescue agent programs... then I tried rescue agent on the trial version of Nero 11 and it did the same thing.
Installed a program which Nero sent on the 3 computers and send the resulting file back to them.
Latest from them it may be the hard dive have you tried another hard drive... YES I have tried 3 other hard drives 3 which are 3 months old and the same thing happens.
AND yes have downloaded trial rescue programs and they all complete their check on the drive all with different results some taking 15 to 30 SO why does rescue agent keep closing some times after it has been running for over 24 hours other times within 15 to 30 minutes?
It appears Nero cannot work it out either... can anyone help?
I may have to take the drive to a shop that does data recovery which could become expensive BUT I need the data and the problem is I do not know exactly how much data I lost or what was in the folder I deleted. That's what happens when you are backing up and moving data from one drive/computer to another and thinking you copied it and then delete it only to find you didn't... more care next time.
    Thanks Laurieray

Sorry to hear about your troubles! However, taking the drive to professional data recovery might be a bit premature - from what I understand, you simply deleted a folder by accident and since then, nothing new has been written to the drive in question. (Hopefully!)

Have you tried Recuva? It's quite small but efficient and does a good job. It's also free and not a trial version.

    Try Recuva as Corazon suggested.

If it doesn't help, you may then try Test Disk.

Regain a lost drive using Test Disk - An Illustrated Guide (only for familiarising yourself)

In this case you will only be looking for a lost file. So be sure not to write anything with Test Disk. Just ask it to show files and folders in the partition and check whether your lost file shows up. If it does, copy it to another drive.

Thanks for the replies I actually have purchased that program as it was one of the free ones I tried and the one that worked the best and found the most data (So decided to buy it).

Some files were overwritten as when I was moving files around I moved some to this drive after I deleted the folder which I thought I had copied to another drive.

I have now done one recovery onto a external drive and going to go through it and see what is good and what is not.

Have found that some programs show they recovered files but some files are corrupted and can not be opened.

Anyhow I will now be busy for a few days plus... checking the files it recovered. It took about 6 hours to do the recovery and only cost me just under $30.

I do backups of everything and have 3 computers (2 lap Tops) at home and 7 external drives ranging from 500 GB to 2 TB. Shows you have to be careful and double check before you delete stuff... I though I backed it up to another drive and didn't.

Very disappointed in Nero and there program, may have to try the new roxio creator pro which also has a recovery program.

    Thanks for the help Laurie

Thanks for keeping us posted Laurie - here's hoping you get most (if not all) of your missing stuff back.

Did you purchase Recuva? That was quite a noble thing to do but probably wholly unnecessary, unless you value the technical support of course. :)

It's a pretty good rescue tool, last but not least because it focuses on its sole purpose of retrieving lost data. I wouldn't personally trust recovery tools added (often as an afterthought, nothing more) to complete suites like Nero or Roxio.

A lot of excellent software out there is free...and more than worth it
