What phone you are using ? For my Android phone(Xperia X8) I use My Phone Explorer.
Also check in your phone options,to use the phone as Data Transfer.
That's not what I am looking for. Thanks
You're welcome. Also if you have Android phone you can also try QtADB.

All I do is switch on Bluetooth on both my phone and my laptop, connect them, then use Win7's device browser to open the "downloads" folder on my phone. From there it's simply a matter of dragging mp3 files from my laptop to the phone. No need to install anything at all.

One of these days I really should get around to buying a newer phone that has more than 5MB of storage...
Since you don't have a Smart Phone like the others, possibly you could help me better. I have a new phone, but not a smart phone. It is a Samsung Haven. I am just not sure exactly what I am doing is the main problem. I want to make an MP3 file for a ringtone and DL to my phone. I know how to get the MP3 file. I have the USB cable from my PC to my phone. Is that called a "firewire"? What do I need to do to get the file from my PC to my phone. This is where I am lost. Your help is greatly appreciated.

If you're using Verizon, your options may be very limited. Smartphones can generally have their memory and SD card "mounted" in Windows to be seen as disk drives. That allows simple drag and drop. Other phones require a lot more work -- and some simply can't do it.

If your phone allows texting, you can attach an mp3 file to a text message and send it to your cell number. Then, when you get the text on your phone, there is typically an option that allows you to save the attachment as a ringtone.

If that is not permitted on your phone, there are generally only two other options. First, you can purchase ringtones from Verizon (but probably NOT from others). Second, you can hack the SW on the phone to allow you to mount the memory as a filesystem. I'm not going to comment on HOW to do the second because that is against forum policy.

I do have Verizon and my phone does allow texting and web access. From the sound of things, it might be more trouble than it is worth. I appeciate your input. Hopefully Trucidation will respond since he has an old phone and still does it.
    Thanks,

Bigmck, if you connect your phone to PC using USB, can't you see them just as any other external drive on Explorer?

If yes, then it's a simple copy and paste operation.

"AH HA", he said. Now that is the info I have been looking for. I know so little about cell phones, I don't know what to ask. I will give that a try when I get home and report back. That sounds like it should work. Thanks very much.

I don't think that he will see there because the phone doesn't have OS and if there is no option to mount SD Card and use it as Data Storage.

I Googled Samsung Heaven only after posting. Stalker, I'm afraid you are right. We have to find something else.

Hi All -- I got home and hooked my phone to the PC and nothing showed in Windows Explorer. Like you said, mine won't do that. I would like to be able to load my own ringtone, but it isn't that big a deal. Thanks,
