    translation

I have downloaded a paper model website which is in Japanese.I have translated the main web page ok but: the several separate pages which contain model details include paragraphs of Japanese text which if highlited, show "copy image" rather than "Copy". The text obviously is being treated as an image and I have no way of getting it to the Google translate page. Can any suggest a method of capturing these bits of Japanese text, copying them and tr5ansferring them to Google?

Try your PrintScreen process: See below for directions for printing the ENTIRE screen or just the ACTIVE WINDOW only. For this function, some systems require also using the Fn key and some don't. (I've included the Fn key in the directions, but if you don't need it, don't click on it!)

SCREENSHOTS - PRINT SCREEN – ACTIVE WINDOW ONLY
Use Alt + PrtScrn + Fn to copy only the ACTIVE window. So, you would get only whatever window is open, neatly cut out already, and ready to paste into NotePad, WordPad or a Word page. (If this doesn't work, you may have to press Alt first, and THEN PrtScrn + Fn together.)

SCREENSHOTS - PRINT SCREEN – ENTIRE SCREEN
Use PrtScrn + Fn to copy EVERYTHING showing on your screen, including opened property menus and dialogue boxes.

For BOTH methods, if you then open NotePad, WordPad or a blank MS Word document you can use the Paste function to transfer the captured image. Then, just highlight all of the text and press Copy, and go on-line to any of the on-line translators (i.e. FreeTranslation.com, Google Translator, Im Translator.com, Reference.com) and you should be able to Paste the text into the box to be translated.

PS You might be able to obtain the same results using your Snipping Tool, but I'm not sure that if you do, you'll be able to 'capture' the text in such a way that it can be pasted into the translator's translation box. It's worth a try though.

Hi. Thank you for youir detailed reply. Unfortunately, I forgot to mention that the downloaded model parts pages are in PDF format and "Print Screen" does not seem to work. As I said earlier, I can highlite the text to be translated but pressing print results in the entire page being printed. Any further suggestions?

wjtwjt, truthfully I wish you would have told us that the pages you wanted to translate were in PDF format because if I had known that, I would not have spent 45 minutes gathering and writing all of the information in my post. So, sorry, but I'm not willing to spend more time to give you further suggestions. Perhaps you can go to Google and do some legwork.

if you can copy the txt that you highlight and then paste it into "im translator" use firefox to install the plugin.

    ImTranslator - Plug-in for FireFox. Version 4.7

failing that , if you have microsoft office with the one note program, clip a screenshot of the txt, then paste the image into onenote then right click the image and select extract txt this feature extracts txt from a photo, then copy the extracted txt into google translate.

What is the address of this website? Sometimes they have an option to display in English, it's just a matter of working out how to change it (which button/link to click).

To Dwarf. Thanks for your help. I do not have any trouble translating the web page. The problem is: the web page contains several download buttons each of which results in a PDF file showing parts of the model which also contains Japanese text instructions for various segments of the model. I have tried hilighting these text segments but they will not copy.
