uTorrent port forwarding? not connecting to seed/peers

network/torrent experts please help! issues is for both utorrent and Vuze/Azureus

I have utorrent installed on one of my laptop and was fine for a couple of weeks, downloading just fine etc but now im when I torrent, it won't connect to seed or peers, or rarely connects to them. example would be something like 200 seeds but I connect to 0 or 1.

    seed: 0(200)
    peer: 1(1000)

I googled for a solution and came across someone said this.

"Did you set up port forwarding? If so, did you do it *correctly*?

This is a common problem with people who check the IP address on their computer and then set up their router to port forward to that IP address. This works great until their computer happens to change its IP addresses. Then the ports are forwarded to the wrong IP address, and connections stop working
    .
    "

this could be port forwarding problems as I am using home net/IP when im at home, and school net/IP when at school. if so, how and where do I port forward? what kind of settings should it look like? and if not, what should I do?

    thank you for your time!

one thing to check is that you have protocol encryption enabled.
open preferences /bitorrent/ click the protocol encryption dropdown arrow, select enabled then click apply/OK.

    see if that helps.
