No, you will need to uninstall it, Works has been discontinued anyway, so if you want a Office suite without the task pane I suggest you download & try Kingsoft Office Suite 2012 which is free to use or buy Microsoft Office.

Kingsoft Office is a lot like Office 2003 if you've used that before, it has a similar UI, it's a very good Office alternative & is relatively small to download at 82.5MB, you can get it from the link below:
