    Software Won't Open on Start-up

Over the past month, my programs -- Office 2010, Quicken, etc. -- will no longer open on start-up. There are no error messages. Outlook, for example, will not open from the task bar or from within "programs" on the start menu. The Icon highlights and the "activity" circle shows, but then shuts down. The only way I can get them to work properly is to do a system restore. Conversely, IE 8 opens up and all of the Windows 7 O/S features work normally. It seems as though a link that connects my programs with the O/S fails to load. Is my problem unique? Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

You could try restoring the default lnk and exe extensions from this tutorial see if that solves it first - Default File Type Associations - Restore
