P2P programs

P2P software particularly torrent software loses download speed dramatically after logged in for more than 10 min.

FIXED
------------------------------------
Turns out I didnt forward my port. But Windows 7 may be picky so if you never have it may go this way on you.

Who is your ISP? Are you using a firewall? If so, have you opened the ports necessary for the particular P2P program you're using? What torrent client are you using? Details!!

uTorrent works perfectly fine for me, I can get full speeds for both UL and DL for long periods of time. What's your ISP?

Ok I am using Utorrent. And I have enabled encryption, thus the high speeds during the first min or 2 of use. Then it drops down to a trickling 10kb. I have also noticed during reboot all my progress of any downloaded torrent will be gone. I have ruled out the possibility of any one tracker because I have tried several torrents, all with the same results. I also have installed vista on a seperate parition and have normal speeds using the exact same torrents.

Have you allowed uTorrent through 7's firewall? Try turning on the following options under the Connections tab in your settings in uTorrent.

And if those are on, or you turn them on and it still doesn't work, try running the speed test shortcut (either from the menu, or press ctrl-g) and click the port testing button. That should open a window in your browser and let you know if traffic is able to go through whatever port you have chosen.

Never really relied on that. Always says error for me. I am currently getting 180kb average on vista with the exact same torrent I was trying on Windows 7. The same torrent would run high speeds for a minute and then go all the way down to 10kb tops and would stay that way unless you rebooted. THen it would do the same thing.

I use Bitcomet with no issues, I used it yesterday to download a Realteck driver and I had 400-600 kbps and using a normal browser like Firefox I get about 50-60 kbps, I've tried Utorrent but I think Bitcomet is best.
