Adobe Reader 9 won't update

When I click on the icon to update Adobe Reader 9, I get an error message that says that Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. Error 1601.

I have no idea on what to do to fix this problem.

You probably need to re-register the Windows Installer Service as this Microsoft article explains.

"Disk Error -- Reserved Error (-1601)" error message when you try to install an Office update

Error 1601 is a Microsoft error code.

Uninstall Acrobat Reader (via Control Panel, Uninstall software) - reboot, and download the new version of Acrobat Reader - then install.
