No, CCleaner is fine, I use it. It is you general body of posts concerning 3rd party optimizing and such.

Exactly...which is one of the main reasons that number of downloads isn't a good indicator of a software's quality.

I am not a believer of number of download from software downloading websites otherwise C**P(should not use this word as many people works hard to provide security stuff) like A*G should not be on top of download list of c##t.com from last 5-6 years (as far i remember it maybe more)
