Where is it showing as running 32-bit as opposed to 64-bit, which is what shows in your snip?

I'm not sure. Its just that it won't let me install skyrim. It says I need 64bit So I'm assuming that my computer must be set to 32bit by default?

That's not the way it works. The 64 bit version of Windows is entirely different from the 32 bit version. You can't switch between them; a clean install is required.

Open your System control panel. If you have the 64 bit version of Windows 7 installed, it'll say so.

I can't check the system requirements for Skyrim from work, but I find it hard to believe that it would require a 64 bit OS.

It doesn't, in fact it's a 32 bit game. Will install on 32 or 64 bit windows.

Praize, can you be more specific about exactly where during install is gives the error and exactly what it says?

'The version of the file is not compatible with version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program and contact the software publisher.'

Thats what I get when I try to install it.

Sounds like the file you have is corrupted or something.

Are you installing it from the DVD or from steam?

WOW!! Thanks, I didn't think of that. The file was corrupt. I re-downloaded it after I read what you said. And it worked! Thanks a bunch!
