First you are running an old version of Skype.

Have you tried re-installing Skype?

Since it runs in safe mode but not in normal mode it is probably a driver. Have you installed any new software or made any changes of late?

First of all you could try running the application in clean boot mode
to see if the problem persists,. Could be software conflict caused by a recent change to
the system or program file corruption.
Use the instructions - how to perform a clean start up found here:
Perform a clean startup to determine whether background programs are interfering with your game or program

If the issue persists in Clean boot mode then
it is most likely a software corruption issue.
If that is the case then try un-installing Skype using
programs and features through Control Panel and then
re-installing the latest version using the direct download link I have provided here:
Downloading Skype

See if that helps at all.

(You got in a little quicker zigzag!! )

Checking on Skype's forum web site, the only fix yet seems to be installing their beta version
and that works. 5.7.0.123
It has something to do with the Ads they are sending..

Edit: You can also down load an older version that works as well. 5.5.0.117
