Installing an .msi file fails - can't get into admin mode

This subject has been discussed before but none of the suggestions seem to work for me.

I am trying to install MicrosoftCodecPack_amd64.msi file on my Windows 7 Home Premium system (64-bit). I'm the only user on this machine and I thought I had admin rights. However, when I try to install said file I get messages telling me I don't have sufficient rights to make changed to the registry, etc. I have Googled for answers but found that none of the suggestions are working. For example, right-clicking on the file and does not give me the option of "run as administrator". When I look at properties of the file I don't see any "run as administrator" option. Clicking on User Accounts>Change Your Account Type then clicking on Administrator grays out the "Change Account Type" button. I'm lost. Can anyone help please?

    Thanks!

    Hi

    Welcome to Seven Forums :)

Have a look at the following SF tutorials (credits to Shawn and the SF Team):

Run as administrator - Add to MSI File Context Menu

If that somehow does not work, try - How to Repair Windows 7 System Files with System File Checker

If you need access to the built-in Admin account, try the following tutorial - Built-in Administrator Account - Enable or Disable

Keep us posted on your progress and Happy Holidays

    Regards

Option/link 1 allowed me to see "Run as Administrator" in the right-click menu. However, the system still would not let install the .msi file.

    I skipped option/link 2.

Option/link 3 did the trick: Built-in Administrator Account - Enable or Disable

Thanks so much for providing this info. I've bookmarked it for future use.

    Cheers!
