    Problem resuming from sleep

I just built a new computer recently and everything seems to work fine except for the sleep mode. After it is in sleep mode I will try to resume and the computer will attempt to start up. You can hear the computer starting to work but after 2-3 seconds, everything shuts off. A few seconds later it tries to restart itself, and the same thing happens. Then it does it again and stays on, but it never outputs anything to the monitor.

Another problem affecting this is after the problem above occurs, I held the power button until it turned off and tried to reboot manually. After the computer started, again it would not output anything to the monitor.

The only way I can get the computer to actually work again is to shut it down, unplug re-plug the power cable, and start it back up. After I do that it resumes Windows to wherever it was before it went into sleep mode.

So first question is, is this a software problem or could there be a faulty piece of hardware from when I built it?

Second, if it is software, how would I remedy this?

Probably not hardware. A corrupt driver more likely (probably your video driver)

There are sleep/suspend options in your BIOS, I'd suspect these may be set incorrectly in the first instance

What's your hardware? Please fill in your system specs.

Resume from sleep problems are not unknown. I once had an Abit P35-based system that wouldn't resume from sleep if it was overclocked at all. Current Z68 systems from Asus have had trouble if the PLL overvoltage was enabled.

Attempted the driver re-install, no luck.

I'll check out the BIOS next chance I get. It should still be on factory defaults, unless that's the problem.

It's using an ASUS Sabertooth X58 motherboard, Core i7 3.1GHz quad core processor, and a geforce gt 430 (2GB 128-bit) graphics card.

By the way, thanks for all the replies guys!
