E-mail as a windows service? (Server 08)

Hey Guys,

I need some help with a project, we have an app that runs on local users' machines via Terminal Services.

This software needs to be able to send out reports via e-mail, but it is still in its early phase and doesn't have e-mail support built in.



Are there any programs that allow sending of email in the background? I.e. without having to open outlook, and create a new message?

Something similar to the way the old Linux software Ghost in the Mail worked?

There are a number of local SMTP servers which may run as a service.

Many such programs are aimed at mass (SPAM!) marketing folks

Just Google using terms like 'Bulk mail program' etc, you'll soon find what I'm talking about...
