Windows 7 - Macrium Reflect v5 restore |

Macrium Reflect v5 restore This morning I had to restore an image using Macrium. The image was only 5 days old.
I had made both the Linux and Pe rescue disks. The Linux disk did NOT work at all.
The PE rescue disk loaded and first it did not load 3 drivers, but I did a scan and it found the drivers and loaded them.
After a lot of nail biting I think I got it to restore. I then restarted the computer, but on Bootup, it said "BOOTMGR" missing. It told me to restart again, but the same message came up.
How do I get my "BOOTMGR" Back?? | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Pro CPU Intel(R) Pentium(R) Duel CPU E2200 2.20 Ghz Motherboard GA-G41M-ES2L Memory 4 gb 2.96 Usable Graphics Card Onboard Sound Card Onboard Hard Drives 2 - 1TB WD Sata Drives |

it's important to do a trial-run and always test an imaging program before relying on it in a 'panic' situation. you can't just assume that it's going to work ok. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number mickey megabyte 1234 OS ultimate 64 sp1 CPU i5 2500K 3.3@4.2GHz Motherboard MSI P67A-GD53 Memory 8 gigs GSkill Ripjaws 1600 Graphics Card amd hd6950 Sound Card creative x-fi gamer Monitor(s) Displays samsung 24" Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard saitek eclipse ii Mouse logitech g3 PSU antec 550 Case antec three hundred Cooling i'm a cooling fan Hard Drives ocz vertex 2e 60 gig, samsung f3 1tb, buffalo 2tb ext Internet Speed about 4 Mbps Other Info i love win7 |

I recommend to always transfer the bootmgr to C: before one takes an image of C:. Then you are safe and do not have to muck around with the 100MB active system partition - worse even if you have a Dell. They put the bootmgr on the recovery partition. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP, Dell, Gateway - 2 laptops and 2 desktops OS Vista and Windows7, sometimes Ubuntu and Fedora CPU from 1.6GHz Duo to 2.5GHz Quad Monitor(s) Displays 2x HP w2207 Keyboard with trackball - no mices Mouse terrible devices, who wants them Hard Drives 5x HDD, 2x SSD, 6x Externals Internet Speed DSL 6000 |

Quote: Yes the "System Reserve" was included in the image. Yes it was.
With Macrium Reflect v5 there is no way to verify the image until you get ready to restore it.
To make a long story shorter , I went ahead and did a Clean install of Windows 7. It will probably take me a month to get all my software reinstalled, but it will not be the first time I have had to do this.
I just don't have any faith in this version of Macrium. I know that version 4 worked; I used it many times to restore images without any issues. I also know that Acronis works well (linux rescue disk work in v4). I will probably go back to using Acronis. Acronis is a little slower, but never failed me.
As far as I am concerned this problem is fixed.
Thanks for all the replies. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Pro CPU Intel(R) Pentium(R) Duel CPU E2200 2.20 Ghz Motherboard GA-G41M-ES2L Memory 4 gb 2.96 Usable Graphics Card Onboard Sound Card Onboard Hard Drives 2 - 1TB WD Sata Drives |

I am not sure what happened here because we never analysed the causes of the failure. But I think you gave up too fast. We may have been able to resurrect the thing. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP, Dell, Gateway - 2 laptops and 2 desktops OS Vista and Windows7, sometimes Ubuntu and Fedora CPU from 1.6GHz Duo to 2.5GHz Quad Monitor(s) Displays 2x HP w2207 Keyboard with trackball - no mices Mouse terrible devices, who wants them Hard Drives 5x HDD, 2x SSD, 6x Externals Internet Speed DSL 6000 |

For Huffman and future reference to those who read this thread.
You need to have a v5.0 Linux CD to work with v5.0 Macrium.
You may have done this but did not state it. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Hopalong/ Godzilla OS Windows7 Pro 64bit SP-1; Windows XP Pro 32bit CPU Intel Core i7-870 Lynnfield 2.93GHz LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Motherboard ASUS P7P55D-E PRO Memory 8GB@1400MHz Crucial Ballistix DDR3-1600 4x2GB Graphics Card ASUS ENGTX460 DirectCU/2DI/1GD5 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 Sound Card VIA Onboard Monitor(s) Displays Samsung SyncMaster 941BW 19"ws Screen Resolution 1440x900 Keyboard Logitech K-320 PSU COOLER MASTER Silent Pro RS850-AMBAJ3-US 850W Modular Case COOLER MASTER HAF 932 RC-932-KKN5-GP Black Cooling Scythe "Mugen-2 Rev.B" (2 ScytheKaze-Jyuni PWM fans) Hard Drives Intel 320 120GB SSD

You may have done this but did not state it. Are you saying that the WinPE recovery disc does not work for you? - or do you mean that the V4.2 Linux disc is no good.
I tried to restore a single partition on a multi partition disk with the Linux recovery disc. But that did not work. It apparently allows only for full disk restores because that was all it offered as restore target. With the WinPE disc, I had no problem. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP, Dell, Gateway - 2 laptops and 2 desktops OS Vista and Windows7, sometimes Ubuntu and Fedora CPU from 1.6GHz Duo to 2.5GHz Quad Monitor(s) Displays 2x HP w2207 Keyboard with trackball - no mices Mouse terrible devices, who wants them Hard Drives 5x HDD, 2x SSD, 6x Externals Internet Speed DSL 6000 |

Never used a PE disk.
So this pertains to the Linux CD's.
There are supposed to be updates on the 5.0 Linux CD so it should be used with Macrium 5.0.
Why would they offer a new v5 Linux CD if the old v4 Linux will work properly?
If your using v4 Macrium then use the v4 Linux CD.
Just makes sense to have the right version of Linux CD for the right version of Macrium.
Why take a chance that it won't work when you need it. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Hopalong/ Godzilla OS Windows7 Pro 64bit SP-1; Windows XP Pro 32bit CPU Intel Core i7-870 Lynnfield 2.93GHz LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Motherboard ASUS P7P55D-E PRO Memory 8GB@1400MHz Crucial Ballistix DDR3-1600 4x2GB Graphics Card ASUS ENGTX460 DirectCU/2DI/1GD5 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 Sound Card VIA Onboard Monitor(s) Displays Samsung SyncMaster 941BW 19"ws Screen Resolution 1440x900 Keyboard Logitech K-320 PSU COOLER MASTER Silent Pro RS850-AMBAJ3-US 850W Modular Case COOLER MASTER HAF 932 RC-932-KKN5-GP Black Cooling Scythe "Mugen-2 Rev.B" (2 ScytheKaze-Jyuni PWM fans) Hard Drives Intel 320 120GB SSD

My problem with the V5 Linux CD was that I could not restore a single partition to a multipartition disk - at least it looked like that because it only showed full volumes as targets and not partitions. Did you see that too. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP, Dell, Gateway - 2 laptops and 2 desktops OS Vista and Windows7, sometimes Ubuntu and Fedora CPU from 1.6GHz Duo to 2.5GHz Quad Monitor(s) Displays 2x HP w2207 Keyboard with trackball - no mices Mouse terrible devices, who wants them Hard Drives 5x HDD, 2x SSD, 6x Externals Internet Speed DSL 6000 Macrium Reflect v5 restore problems?
