Are you talking about the Windows 7 Adobe PDF printer?
All that does is convert a file to a PDF document and saves it in the Documents folder.

In other words, it's a virtual printer along the lines of the Microsoft XPS Document printer or the Send to OneNote printer.
Once you've converted your file to a PDF document using the virtual printer you can then use your physical printer to print it off.
