camstudio question!

Yesterday i used Camstudio for the first time, our lecturer says that it will record the screen for over an hour if we wish,
The problem is it froze and crashed after i stopped recording,

has anyone used camstudio and had a similar problem and if so is there a workaround for this issue.

I use camstudio a lot. Not sure if I have ever gone over an hour, but certainly I've done numerous 40 minute videos. I don't use the latest codec however, I still use the 1.4 as I had lots of issues with the newest one on my machine at work where I record videos.

It tends to freeze when it is saving the video if it is big. Just save then leave it alone until it frees up.

It helps if the temporary directory is on the same partition as the final video. Options->Program Options->Temporary directory for recording.

i did not know i had to watch the codec, i just down loaded camstudio and used it to get away from a similar problem with CAMTASIA which gives me 2 minutes recording time before it crashes.
would the codec apply to both programs?
i would be happy with recording 40 minutes
how do i install a codec 1.4 into the program/pc/Windows 7.

I don't know about the portable version. The new codec is a separate download of a zip file. It's on the front page of the camstudio site. CamStudio - Free Screen Recording Software

camstudio still ill

hi
i installed codec 1.4 in my down load folder, right clicked and selected same destination, i got the free winrar for 40 days to unzip iy and ran camstudio, it recorded for 20 mins but was un useabel footage with break up of picture and piv ovelaps breaking up.
i then recorded 5 x3 minute sections and it was perfect each time, after stop, a save as, after a short render box. and these played back in media player and Power Director 10 perfect.

but anything over 5 mins is poor and broken file

did i install correctly?

I down loaded camstudio from the free screen recorder website and install codec 1.4 but still no good .Im using camstudio portable which was given to me by my teacher and its good for 3 mins. But as it happens on Camtasia i think ?

so unless u have an idea i just record in small sections but that wont help to record a lesson!
the teacher is so busy i feel i need to sought it myself.

I've recorded 45 minutes before with no problem. I've found that Microsoft Video 1 works best for me with a quality of 75-80%.

I've never had any problems recording for over 5 minutes with camstudio. I use an older version of the software, version 2.0. I just downloaded the newer 2.6 release from their website (CamStudio - Free Screen Recording Software) and am recording a video right now. Going to let it go at least 10 minutes and see what happens.
