Services utility to toggle and restore/enable disable services

Hi,

I'm trying to sort out issues with my Win7 machine and want to disable/set to manual services that I know are not needed, but every time I have done this in the past (a while ago now) I invariably run into an issue where I've inadvertently disabled a service that was needed by something, and I end up scratching my head (as all of my hair falls out around this point) and enabling everything just to sort it..

Is there any utility that anyone is aware of that lets you toggle service status, with the option to reset to default or reset to last status, while showing a list of services that I've changed?

I can't seem to word it properly for a search engine to find relevant results, and find usually specific services and not something I'm hoping exists.

I wish the Services.msc mmc had a checkbox or some sort of flag to show altered services so you could sort them by that, which would help a lot, but it doesn't.

Hopefully I'm not too vague here, and I did do a search for it on the forums, but did not seem to find anything related to my query.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help!

bone.

Hello Bone, and welcome to Seve Forums.

In addition, Black Viper has a list at the link below of all the default settings for Services that may help.

Hope this helps,

Hey, thanks for that! It looked promising, but appears not to work under Windows7 64bit, even running as administrator. I cannot toggle the service on/off, it flickers for a millisecond and then nothing has changed.

Still appears in development however, so I'll keep an eye on it unless it's become stale - I did notice the comments were from 2009.

Thanks though!!

Cheers! Definitely more intuitive than the default service mmc. A pity it does not add the one feature I was hoping for, or this would be perfect.

Whoever designed the mmc must have had no intention of using it, this is how it should have been written in the first place imo!

Thanks!

Awesome information! Bookmarked and page saved as I tend to rebuild my machine more often than not these days due to hardware.. Oo

Such a shame there is nothing like, say, Firefox has in about:config. Highlites entries you've edited, gives you the option for Default settings, etc.

I must be the only one who gets entirely lost in the plethora of confusion that is Microsoft

Cheers mate!

Steve.
