Wordpad: How to reinstate Windows 7 version of Wordpad? Hi. Please bear with me, I'm a PC novice.
I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Recently I tried to make the Windows 7 version of Wordpad look like the Vista version using the following instructions: How to Get the Good Old Wordpad (without Ribbons) Working in Windows 7? - Tweaking with Vishal
But it didn't work, and now it seems I can't use Wordpad at all.
If anyone can help me reinstate Wordpad I'd be very grateful.
Kind regards,
David | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit |

try running sfc/scannow it should revert the changes, SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker - Windows 7 Forums
failing that do a system restore to a point before you made the change to wordpad, System Restore - Windows 7 Forums
edit. if you have any third party themes then sfc can change back to default windows, so if you do then try system restore first, this wont affect any themes you have | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Hewlett packard/p6512uk OS Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 7600 CPU IIx4 amd athelon 635 processor Motherboard FOXCONN 2AA9 Memory 2x2gb Graphics Card ati radeon HD 5450 Sound Card (1) Realtek High Definition Audio (2) AMD High Definition Monitor(s) Displays samsung lcd tv 32" Screen Resolution 1360x 768 Keyboard wireless hp Mouse wireless Hp,optical PSU ? If boohbah's suggestion of a system restore doesn't work. Try reversing the steps you followed and delete the new wordpad.exe file and rename the wordpad_backup.exe back to wordpad.exe . Then do the same for the new wordpad.exe.mui file. Delete it and rename the wordpad_backup.exe.mui to wordpad.exe.mui. If that doesn't work, the SFC suggested should ultimately work. Thank you boohbah and A Guy for your replies. Not quite sure what I'd done wrong but for some reason I couldn't locate any files named wordpad (even after following online advice about tweaking a few tickboxes under Folder Options(?)) and so couldn't reverse the steps I'd followed initially. Not to worry though, System Restore did the trick. Thanks again for your help. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit |
