Java 64 bit installation not available after installation

I uninstalled java, which was a 32 bit version on my 64 bit win7. If memory serves me correctly, the 64 bit wouldn't work about a year ago, and was told to use the 32 bit and now I'm facing the same delema. When I go to the java test page, it shows it isn't working. It is enabled under IE options and custom level. It shows it is "not" available under manage add-ons. Some mention to rid of java, but that would have to be another day. I want this to work properly now. Oh also, in the java control panel defaul java for browsers...MIE is grayed out. Anyone?

ok, so i removed the 64 bit version and said the hell with java...not so fast. i opened a reg. used program of mine and ha, says "you need java". it directed me to website, i downloaded and installed the "recommended" version. hmm, its the 32 bit version on my 64 bit win7. strange and don't care anymore. googled this for an hour and i realized i got some wet paint i'd rather watch dry. later

I would have said most programs don't need 64 bit.

Since most use the 32 bit Explorer, even on a Windows 7 x64 system, JAVA 32 bit at least is required.
I install both versions on my Windows 7 x64.
