    iTunes on Windows constantly freezes

I have Windows 7 Ultimate on my laptop and constantly am running into the issue with iTunes always freezing up either when I open the program or while it's minimized, scrolling through my library, or in the iTunes Store. I have uninstalled it and all of its components one by one, re-installed and it will only work for so long before it acts up again. VERY FRUSTRATING!
Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a solution?

Are you sure it's iTunes causing the problem, not hardware limitations? What laptop is it? Specifications would help rule that out.

It's an HP Pavilion dv4 laptop.
    Processor: Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU T4300 @ 2.10 GHz
    Installed RAM: 8.00 GB
    System type: 64-bit OS

Question: do you have your iPod (or any iDevice if you have one) connected to your iTunes (wirelessly or with a cable) while the freezes occur?

I had a similar issue with iTunes with a previous version. The program seems to have stopped responding and it could take up to 3 min. If I removed my iPod iTunes would un-freeze and come back to normal...

Even though you are running a laptop and this may not apply, Depending on how you have your library configured and how big it is may cause a problem like this.

I kept my huge MP3 library on an external drive and just imported the folders into itunes from there. Unfortunately the external drive was a slow cheap one and took a long time to respond from a idle state. So when I would open itunes, it would hang until the external drive woke up sometimes as long as a minute or more. And if itunes didn't access a file on the drive for any length of time, it would go back to idle and the whole process would have to start all over next time itunes tried to play a song.

Again, don't know if this applies to you or not. But just thought it was worth sharing.

Ever since the last time I recently uninstalled and reinstalled it, it hasn't froze on me *knock on wood* however, I do have 2 iPod touches and I plug them in via USB cable. However, I always wait until iTunes opens up and does everything it has to do before introducing an iPod because I have often wondered if that doesn't contribute to some of the freeze-ups. So far, though, iTunes hasn't froze...I guess time will tell...

I am not sure, however, this old thread could be useful to identifying the cause for the issue if it occurs again:

    Itunes x64/Ipod Classic Sync issue

Seems, indeed, it might have to do with keeping your Media folder on an external drive.

I don't store my iTunes media on an external drive. It all resides in my Music folder in the Windows Explorer Libraries.
