Should I un-install the old Live before installing the new one? Would that make for a "cleaner" install?

I just installed mine right over the old one with no problems, that's up to you though.

Gotta say, I am loving the facebook features. Can't wait to play with the calendar and all the integration. Seems pretty cool.

Meh, I personally don't like the new version of Windows Live. it's pretty dang bulky, and not being able to change your name is just ew. ( Especially having to have that last name junk in there. ) Not much of a facebook fan, so all their " Social Networking " stuff is just kinda meh. Not being able to make any of the windows smaller is pretty bad too. I've got the previous version of Windows Live, right before 2011, if you're interested in tossing that up there too Brink. If a program like Adium had MSN Offline messaging support, I'd probably switch to that in a heart beat if the 2011 update became mandatory. But, that's just my opinion. Glad to see some people enjoying it, I'm sure others will miss the whole personal name thing. xD

You can make the default social window smaller by clicking the door icon on the top right, then it goes back to the classic list.

Yeah.. But its still bigger than previous versions, and you cant make it any smaller. Also, not being able to change your name and stuff, is a bit upsetting.

It's not bigger if you put it compact view, like swarfega suggested.

Windows Live Messenger - Change to Full or Compact View

And if you click on your name, the dropdown list has edit name and you can switch view.

I uninstalled the windows live that I had and installed the 2011 essentials but I hate it. Where can I find the last version of it?

cosy, first uninstall 2011, then go to OldApps, there you can download the last 2009 build setup.

What I'm wondering is for how long we can use v2009 before MS forces us to update to v2011?

No, even with compact view, it is bigger. And i already knew you could do compact, if it was that big box, my god, i'd stop using MSN all together if thats what they forced on us.
