Windows 7: WMDC / activesync error & samsung omnia i900

just wondering if someone can help with a strange problem im having.. basically when ever i attach the phone to the USB cable, it authenticates then after a few minutes i get a message on my omnia stating "to sync this device Activesync 4.5 or newer must be installed on the desktop computer." have tried completely un-installing WMDC and the update(re-booting after each step) but with no luck,

samsung connection options are as follows

USBtoPc : Enable advanced network functionaly is not ticked

USB connection mode: Activesync/ Mass Storage radials, Activesync selected
