Indexing Options/Advanced/File Types reports that the "Registered IFilter is not found."

This problem with Adobe 10.x and Windows 7 is reported on numerous sites. The IFilter is not included with v10.x.

Adobe's own responses in their forums have only a cryptic response: "This is by default for security reasons."

As of this writing, Adobe's forums are under reconstruction.

Some sites report that the security issue has to do with Microsoft Exchange, which I think is irrelevant for desktop installs. Knowledgeable users here might comment on that.

Other users on some sites say that the 64-bit IFilter for v.9 will work ok with 10.x.

I would appreciate any informed comments or suggestions about this issue. It is my greatest disappointment that in this 'advanced' OS, I can't search my greatest repository of documents.
