Cannot open AutoCad Lt 98 in Windows 7, 32 Ent

I cannot open AutoCad Lt 98 in Windows 7, 32 bit. I get the message, "Fatal Error: Heaping Error" then AutoCad exits. I have uninstalled/reinstalled 2x's and tried opening by right clicking the start-up icon under "Troubleshoot Compatibility." AutoCad will open for about 10 secs then display the same error message. AutoDesk is no help. Other community posts have mixed responces: some say no problems, others no solutions. Anybody know something I haven't been able to stumble across yet? I don't have $1k for a new version. Thanks

In my opinion this is not the problem.

Lt 98 is very old version,pre-windows 7.

You might try XP mode, if you have a version of Windows 7 that supports it.

(It's XP, running within a virtual machine.) It may limit Autocad's performance, but perhaps it'll still be better than when the software was new. (1998: what was that - Pentium II?)

I tried all the compatibility modes several times now. Even tried to download it to my wifes laptop with Windows 7, 64 bit and it wouldn't take it either. I think I'm stuck unless someone has a miracle they'd like to share. Thanks all.
