Error 1402: Cannot access key

Hi.

I've been looking all over the net for an answer to this one. Adobe Acrobat and Office 2007 are giving me the same error.

I've cleaned the registry, and in fact, I removed each and every Adobe key in the registry.

So, still no go.

Well, I've finally been able to locate the culprit key, but the key is damaged and the system will not let me fix it or delete it.

Anyone know of a way to explicitly remove a selected key???

Thanks,

I'm having the exact same issue with my new machine running Windows 7.

I've tried going through Adobe's various walkthroughs on how to give yourself access to the offending key, only to find that even as an Admin I don't have permission to touch that registry key - let alone modify it.

Can anyone help on this?

Thanks,
Geoff

Ran into the same error when trying to install Adobe Reader, AVG Free and Sony Vegas.

Trying to open the Installers key in the registry brings up the message "Installers cannot be opened. An error is preventing this key from being opened."

Becoming real frustrating, none of the online solutions seem to work.

Tried that, the problem he describes is exactly the same as mine, but it didn't work, the SubInACL.exe system utility doesn't open or function after being installed. Using the “secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose” run command didn't fix the problem either.
