Windows 7: Mavis Up Button - Don't register this software!

Hi Guys!

I downloaded this software and like it very much so I bought it. Then I had to reinstall windows and the program stopped working, saying that I should make the register. I entered the site and chose the option to receive a new registration code, Since it had already registered, but the site don't return nothing! No serial, No answers... In addition to don't receive a new code, don't get any help by e-mail, nobody answers my e-mails, I've tried for several months to get a new register code but it seems that people simply do not exist there.

It seems that everything in this site is automatic! Purchase and registration are all automatic. Today, after several months to try to contact Mavis site, but nobody answers my questions. I lost my money and was very unhappy. Don't buy this software, because it only works the first time! When you need to reinstall, Mavis Up Button no longer accepts the serial and nobody will help you!

This is my alert for all the people that want to buy this software.

I have the exact same problem only I use it inside a Win 7 virtual machine on my MACBook Pro. This software WAS great but there is absolutely no support and no contact to the programers
SHAME.
I have checked out the suggested Classic Shell, it is indeed great. Only one thing is I need the Up Button not to close the folder I am working with, just open its parent!
any ideas how to do that?

I like the Classic shell extension too, it is by far better than the up button alone, free, open source and with lots more features than just the button. I don't see any reason to have the Mavis thing around when something else fixes all the bugs introduced in Windows 7 with one program.

Ammoun, I've managed to make it work that way with Classic Shell. The up button cannot do what you want, but you can add a new custom button to the toolbar instead and use it (or both if you want).
Go to the explorer settings and in the toolbar buttons tab add a new custom item, and in the properties of that item, in the command field put this in bold: explorer /select,"%1". Fill all the remaining items as you like and restart explorer to use it.

i dont understand why you need the up button when you have the breadcrumbs along the top of the address bar in the explorer window,
this has more use than the up button because to navigate back four folders with the button its four clicks ,with the breadcrumbs you simply click on the fourth folder ,or back one etc



using the breadcrumbs ,its not possible to navigate back to the parent folder and keep the folder you are working with open , however it is very easy to flit between the two by clicking the down arrow to the right of the left/right page navigation buttons. there is a tree there and when you click back on the parent folder and it opens then you can again click the dropdown arrow by the page nav buttons and the working folder is still in the tree, so its easy to click back.

It's easy to see once you've used explorer a lot everyday. Those breadcrums are no match for the up button and I find easily 2 reasons, their position is dynamic (so you have to actively seek for the "parent" folder) and when you're in a smaller window the breadcrums become chopped and you cannot see the full path or click the right one you want. They're a pain to use really, that's why people prefer an extra click to those, and even developed many ways to get rid of them since they appeared.
Also, the fact that there is a function that cannot be done with them but can be done with a crafted up button is another reason.

Now my question. Why do you need the breadcrums when you have the treeview? You can do everything you can do with breadcrums, and a lot more, in a more visual and explicit way.

the breadcrumbs are exactly the same as the tree except they are horizontal not vertical.
i presume the breadcrumbs give you a visual heads up as it were without having to click anything to see the path.
as i said if you click the dropdown beside the navigation buttons you see the whole tree without the need for an up button, i think its horses for courses, if you were used to the up button in vista then you miss it in seven,
i too use explorer a lot everyday, the breadcrumb method works for me,
each to his own , i dont have windows so small i cant see all of the crumbs, if i did it would be the dropdown list /tree of crumbs i would use.
