VLC Media Player Won't Play Certain DVDs Properly! This is hugely annoying!
I can play most DVDs without any bother with VLC. I recently got 'The World at War - Ultimate Restored Edition', but the discs won't play!
First, VLC just wouldn't open the DVD. I kept trying, and eventually it opened the DVD, but the audio and video were massively choppy.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalled VLC. Now the audio and video are distinctly less choppy, but it's still very irritating.
What gives? It's just these DVDs, and I don't get what's different about them! | My System Specs |

Try playing them with Windows Media Center and see what it does. I have had problems with VLC playing all types of files and getting bad video. These same files play great in Window Media Player or Windows Media Center. I have now removed VLC and use WMC for everything.

I have found that VLC and several other media players do not play .mkv files over 4 gigabytes properly. What are the extensions and sizes of the files that VLC doesn't play properly on your Computer?

Tried it on the same day that it was released. There was no improvement.
OP has not replied so far to my earlier query.

Jim Ahh, the Curse of Windows 7 befalls me when I try that. Any video played with WMP or WMC looks absolutely horrible - like a moving watercolour painting, big blotchy pixels. Sometimes it looks like there's rain pouring down the screen, kind've flashing lines. VLC usually plays everything and displays much better image quality...

What are the extensions and sizes of the files that VLC doesn't play properly on your Computer? As far as I can tell... it's just a standard DVD. The DVD is 7.27 GB in size, and the files show up as .vob, because I have VLC player as my default DVD player. The DVD file structure is just the usual AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders, just like any other DVD.
