Not really, leave windows alone, it does a great job on memory and resources management, if your computer is not up to windows 7, go back to XP or spend some cash on good hardware.

Yes, you can use vlite for that and strip away all the touch related stuff or you can download a trimmed version of win 7 from torrents and register with your Genuine product key (it is not pre-activated and in no way Warez)

I think the best way to have a handy lite version for personal use would be to first install Windows 7 and then knock of all that you don't want with "Windows Features On or Off" (Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features)

When done, create its compressed image with an imaging program that offers the compression feature and burn it on a DVD. The image would mostly not get restored on other computers ensuring freedom from piracy. If lite versions are being offered by persons other than Microsoft then I think they are not legal,

    The question is: Why?

It's just not going to be possible to reduce the ISO size sufficiently to enable it to fit on a CD instead of a DVD, if that's what you want. You will need to shave off about 1.6GB of the 2.3GB size of the ISO (based on Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit with SP1 pre-integrated) in order to get it to fit on a 700MB CD. There's just no way that you can remove that much data from the ISO.

No, I just want to shave off about 500 MB to 1 GB only.

Why on earth would you want to do this.

A better solution might be to look at Windows to Go on a USB stick (a RUNNING version of W8 on a USB stick / external USB drive which runs as Windows -- not just as an install disk )

Try a look at these threads

Windows 8 to go - on a USB stick - Windows 8 Forums

You state specifically Windows 7 and this is a Windows 7 forum but depending on your purpose a linux OS maybe running Wine maybe worthwhile.
