Hiyya Deacon I think I may have found the problem this morning I am going to have to go through all the drivers as the optical drive will not read any music disks either.

So it either those or the drive is cactus. I should have woke up to myself late last night while was finishing up the SSD install- the Kaspersky disk would not load.

Sorry for the rant - it had been a long day

Once you get your optical drive up and running you may find this tutorial helpful.

Hey thanks Andrew I did the install as per the tut when I finally got the SSD to show up and just put in an OEM 7 to avoid that humongous load of Toshiba / Symantec bloat.

Hey and you reminded me too I forgot the hibernation bit - was along day

Yeah it was even better this pm when I finally hit on using my trusty gadget to install the Home & Student Office 2007 as my Toshiba optical has now eaten the biscuit to top off a horror two days but at last it's on

The pic shows the gadget connected to an old 2005 Lite on drive then via USB to the laptop (adaptor in background for power) - quite frankly don't know why I didn't think of this before as I has been struggling with the opto in the laptop and an oldish Benq external opto drive since yesterday evening

Probably one the best investments I have ever made $12! - wouldn't be without one now
