Windows 7: Windows Live Essentials Error

Windows Live Essentials Error

I usually use Skype, but sometimes I use Windows Live Messenger. One day, I saw a newer version of this program, so here's what I did:
1) I downloaded the newest version
2) Installed.
When I was installing it, it deleted the old version. When I was installing the new version it installed in about 0.000000001 second. I was like: WT* . But when I click Close, nothing opens (The installation said, that if I click close, it will open). Then I opened Start --> Clicked All Programs --> Searched for a folder named Windows Live or something --> Found it --> Empty.

What should I do?

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

Which site did you download the updated version from?

Was it a genuine Microsoft site?

Something certainly doesn't sound right so I'd be inclined to run an anti-virus scan, and then use Microsoft's system restore to a point in time before you downloaded the update.

Malwarebytes is pretty good for this job.
