    Daemon Tools?

So I downloaded Daemon Tools Lite... their site says it supports Windows 7 and all.

Well I go to install it, and Windows says it has known compatibility issues. I ignored it and installed it, and it seems to work fine.

So what's up with the warning? Is it because Daemon Tools doesn't officially support the final build since it's not out to the public yet? Or is Windows just being stupid? or is it gonna start crashing on me sometime?

Has anybody actually gotten Daemon Tools to work correctly?

Additionally, this site shows it as being 64-bit, but yet it installs to the x86 folder and only appears to be 32-bit.

Is there some super-secret version I'm missing?

Did you download the latest version: Lite v4.30.4 and Pro v4.35.0306

Daemon tools work with SPTD drivers for emulation so they are 32 or 64 bit compatible...

    Yep, Lite version 4.30.4

Should I just tell it to not show that warning?

Oh, and Daemon.exe is showing the *32 in task manager... how do I make it 64-bit?

To do that, you would have to be running a 64-bit version of the software. As far as I know, there isn't a 64-bit version of Daemon Tools available.

Huh? That site said there was a 64-bit version though!

Or is it just saying it's COMPATIBLE with 64-bit? So far I haven't had a single 32-bit program not work on Windows 7 x64, besides some that freak about it not being XP, and even then usually compatibility mode works.

yes - it is a useless warning, as the software works perfectly fine.

also, i've never seen a 64 bit version yet - start64.com must have double vision concerning daemon tools. :)

Actually, there is not a 64 bit *executable* - however, the driver (SPTD.sys) now supports both 32-bit and 64-bit OSs, so that you can install DT on both architectures.

IOW, it is *compatible* - not native. The reason is that DT is not jus ta program, but actually a program that works in conjunction with a driver - and 64bit OSs *require* 64bit drivers, something that DT Was lacking for a long time.

I just had an issue with it, though - been using it on Windows 7 Ultimate RTM 64bit at home with no issues - but tried to install it to my laptop, Windows 7 Ultimate RTM 32bit and after isntalling the sptd.sys and rebooting the OS goes into a reboot loop with a BSOD. I just checked the disc-tools.cc website, and noticed the latest SPTD drivers are actually at v1.60 - so I am going to try pre-installing that and then installing DT to see if it makes a difference.

The problem could be a conflict with HP Protect tools (don't think so, but....who knows) or even b/c I upgraded the laptop from Windows Vista 32bit to W7 (as it installs all the drivers and such for me I figured this was going to be the easier route). If this doesn't work then I am formatting and installing W7 Ultimate x64 on this puppy just so I can have DT working correctly. It only has 2 GB right now but I am going to get another 2 gb if I need to format and install x64 clean OOB.

Incidentally, there was a thread either here or on Vista x64 when we were all clamoring for the x64 support as well as when we were all clamoring for W7 support....(might have been 2 separate threads, IIRC)

I contacted the authors of Daemon Tools just to verify the compatibility and they say it will work without issues. I think I posted the reply they sent in another thread.

not on my machine - but like I said, there is a lot more to it than just the OS - I suppose there is a major conflict with the Trusted Platform Module or else some of the other software that comes pre-installed on the HP....

I think the compatibility issues mentioned are only existing because of the SPTD drivers delivered with v4.30.4. I think they are v1.57. This version is incompatible with Windows 7. The current version is v1.60 and can be found here: DuplexSecure - Downloads

I installed the SPTD v1.60 prior installing Deamon Tools Lite v4.30.4 and have no problems at all, cause the DT setup detects the already installed SPTD driver.
