A big thanks for your tip

It solves problem of protocol support (mailto, nntp, news, snews), but no display of Windows Mail on "set your default programs"

    (capture in french)

And .eml mime type association is not correctly recognized on "associate a file type or protocol with a program" : just display ".eml file", but not "Windows Mail e-mail" like Windows Vista.

I think a reg entry is missing, but I don't know what ?

    Thanks.

Sorry my previous reply was unthinkingly posted from my Vista boot...since deleted.

In my defaults I do have Windows Mail mentioned but not as the default news client as in the second entry in Vista.

So in Windows 7 there is only the 1 entry whereas in Vista there are 2, 1 for email and 1 for newsgroups.

Perhaps xsmile can clarify? Pic 1 is Windows 7 and pic 2 is Vista.

    I found the problem.

I make a compilation of different .reg that xsmile posted above, plus some additional keys.

    Enjoy

Thanks for trying but I get the attached error. Tried in my Windows 7 boot and on my Netbook which has Windows 7 and Windows Mail installed. Both got the same pop-up.

However, according the Default Programs it worked, despite giving the error, so why did it give one I wonder? (See pic #2)

This error popup might refer to existing keys created by previous reg additions given by xsmile.

It's not important : program, file & protocol associations and "default program" display still work perfectly.

Files to make Windows Mail default in W7

Hmm, can you please tell me which files and/or protocols you want to open with Windows Mail to access the newsgroups?
I will try to extend my registry file.
I have a new and working install of Windows Mail under Win7 Home Premium. I cannot get it to respond as the default mail client when 'mail to' is called by another programme.

I read in the forum you have a set of .reg files that will do the job but they seem to have 'evolved' in repsonse to errors reported back.

I see that the erros seem to have been fixed..can you post/ send me a working set please? I am new to this forum and don't knoiw if the contactby email is possible 7 at faxcess.com
will reach me if you replace the number with the word

This aimed as xsmile [aor anybody else with a working set]

Can't get Windows live mail to respond as default mail

The quote below is the same problem I am having. Did anyone give an answer a to how to get the Windows Live Mail to respond as the default mail client when "mail to" is called by another program? For example from my Contacts folder. Should I uninstall Windows Live Mail and re-install it? Do I have to install another mail client so Windows 7 has something to chose from?

    Thanks for any help.

There is a tutorial section that explains it pretty well.
    Take a look at it:
