    not an error.. just nothing

    So in the sys tray box thingy I see windows has updates for me.. oh deep joy

    I click on the customize button and nothing happens, I done get a sausage, no error msg nothing. Also Windows update is not accessible from within the systray box. I Can however access it via control panel just fine.

    This is the above the vertical >> in the systray

    all other items in the systray box are working fine, volume etc.

    its more of a pain in the butt than anything

    Clean install yesterday

    thanks in advance

    Hey AngryPanda am not real sure of what you are doing that pop up from the systems tray I just left click on and away it goes so I don't understand what you are right clicking on?

    I always add Windows Updates to my taskbar or quick start menu or even desktop for convenience saves an awful lot of clicking around in Cont Panel and programs etc. You just right click on it in program list and hit pin to taskbar or quick start either that or send to - (pick) desktop. :)

    thanks for the pinning idea. sadly in the program list I right click update to select pin to taskbar and the option isnt there. The link also seems to be dead even in admin mode.

    I have been to the file location and the required application is in he right place

    also of note is that action center is also not accessible though I do get an Important message if I turn of windows firewall, I just cant go to the action center to see what the messages are.

    Ignore the right click bit I'll edit the original post

    Hum well just add it to desktop AP doesn't take up too much space and just out of interest what security are you using?

    The Action Centre I am not sure of what is going on there.

    curently I am stripped down to just windows defender and firewall just to make sure its a) a windows problem and b) if I catapult the machine out the window I have wasted time installing a lot of software

    This will help you create a shortcut for Windows Update as suggested by ICit2lol;

    Windows Update Shortcut - Create in Windows 7

    You can also try troubleshooting with the System Readiness Tool;

    What is the System Update Readiness Tool?

    I have tried all the above with no joy. SP1 refuse to install. I am wondering if the HDD is corrupted

    AP what are your machines specs mate is this your build or a factory one? I am surprised that you have to upload SP1 at all as usually the 7 comes with it already.

    So it begs the question how old is the OS you have? I had one a fair while ago now had this problem which the Readiness tool fixed.
