    Hi there,

Incase anybody has tried these steps above and still can not get the scanner to work through the epson scan suite, try the following, as you may still have TWAIN drivers installed from a previous all in one printer scanner installation.

Uninstall all printer and scanner drivers in which ever way you're comfortable

    Go to:

    C: > Windows > twain_32 >

Delete everything in the folder EXCEPT 'wiatwain.ds'

Restart the computer and try another install

This problem is caused by the lack of a digital signature in the scanner driver.
Here is my post addressing the issue.

The linked page above now contains a solution to this problem.

    Epson DX [xxxx] scanner problems...

    Hey guys,

Answer to this [if a little un-straightforward] :

    In w7

start by opening the control panel.
    Select "Hardware and Sound".
    Select "Devices and Printers".

In the list - look for your device.

There should appear the option - "Start Scan".
Right click for a dialog box.

The rest should be plain to sailing.

I did some toying with my system today and found the following workaround that enabled Epson scan to run over the USB port as long as it runs as administrator.

I found that there is a conflict between Epson scan and the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service. To test this on your system, first log into your administrator account. This will just make it easier since Epson scan will only run as administrator.

    Open your services panel:
Start - All programs - Accessories - Services

Click in the list and then press the W key,
This will take you down to the Ws.

Scroll down to Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)

Right click on Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) and click properties.

Click the "Start up type" drop down box and select disable.

Under Service Status click the Stop button and wait until the service shows that it is
    halted.

    Once the service has stopped

We need to set Epson scan compatibility mode to run under XP(Service Pack 3)
Right click the Epson Scan icon and then click on the compatibility tab.
Click the "Run program in compatibility mode" check box.
Click the drop-down box and select Windows XP (Service Pack 3).
Click the OK button to apply changes and close the properties window.
    Start Epson scan.

If you are not logged in as Administrator, you must run Epson scan as administrator by right clicking the icon and choosing "Run as Administrator". In addition you must run under XP(Service Pack 3) compatibility mode.

I suspect that this is all that needs to be done to get Epson scan working.

If Epson scan runs, right click the Epson scan icon and then click properties.
If the Short cut tab is not selected, select it.
Click the Advanced button and click on the box next to "Run As Administrator".
click the OK buttons to apply and close the options window.

    Things to note:
When you disable and stop the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service and then right click on the printer in Devices and Printers, the "Start scan" command will not be present. This is not an issue for people having this problem because clicking that menu option only causes the (You need a WIA Driver) error to load.

When you open Epson scan settings as a regular user and click the test button, Epson scan settings will not find the scanner. If you run Epson scan settings as Administrator, Epson scan settings will detect the scanner and show it as ready. In addition to this, starting the Event Manager will only cause the "Epson Scan cannot be started" error dialog to open up.

This is just a work around, so what's the solution to this problem?
It is quite simple. The solution is for Epson to get off their cheep lazy backsides and refactor Epson scan, Epson scan settings, and Event Manager to run as regular users on Windows Vista and above.

If the above does not work take these extra steps: Open Programs and Features from control panel.
Click the "Turn Windows Features on and off" link.
Scroll down to Print and Document Services and click the plus sign next to it.
While I found this unnecessary on my system, UN-check the Scan Management and Windows Fax and Scan as well as any other checked items in the list and click OK.

    Hope this works for people.

    WIA error solved.
    Epson Scan error solved
Workforce610 Epson Scan WIA error solution.

I finally figured out how to correct the problems I am having with Epson scan 3.76 and Windows 7 Pro x64.
I posted my solution to this issue at the following link where I also posted my 2 workarounds.

Follow the steps in my third post on the following page and you should be able to fix your issues with Epson scan.
Windows 7 WIA Driver needed Epson Scanner cause network workaround

After I followed those steps, Epson scan runs without doing any of the following:
    Setting compatibility mode
    running as Administrator.
Disabling the Windows Image Acquisition service.

It is to bad that Epson tech did not have the foresight to resolve this issue with a simple upgrade to the latest version of Epson Scan. The steps that must be followed indicates just how unconcerned Epson is regarding customers that have purchased their products. They clearly do not want us to return and purchase their products in the future.

    Epson scanner software not working

I got an Epson all in one Stylus BX625 FWD, and it worked fine for a long time, but then all of a sudden Epson scan did not work anymore - likely after some Windows Update. I tried to run the software with compatibility settings for previous versions of windows, but it still didnt work.

The last thing I tried was going to start->Devices and Printers-> There I clicked on my printer (the printer functionality was working fine). I had given the printer a 'fixed ip address' on my network (192.168.0.98 in my case, via the keypad on the printer itself).

So then I clicked on 'Scanner Management - Epson Scan Settings'. In there I manually entered my Printer IP address. And 'voila' - the scanner came finally alive!!

I had previously followed some what what others had suggested in other forums, like running the scanner software .exe in administrator mode - so this may have had something to do with my success but I dont think so - the problem was the sofware was unable to communicate with the scanner. Good luck everyone

Just a final update on this issue.

Some months ago I downgraded my system from Win7_64 bit to Win7_32bit.

After installing the drivers for the Epson Workforce, I found that I was able to configure the scanner to work over the USB port without any issues.

This indicates that the problem is in the driver itself and not the Epson Scan front end program which accesses the driver and why setting Epson Scan to run in compatability mode does not always work.

This issue comes down to corporate greed as a programmer could easily edit the code and update the driver and or Epson Scan front end to work properly in both Win7_32 bit and Win7_64 bit. But the Corporation is just to greedy and selfish to pay a programmer to do so.

This past spring I replaced my all in one Epson with a brother laser printer (not all in one). I grew tired and just could not afford to keep buying inkjet cartriges that dried out or expired before I could use every last drop. And having to spend the money on ink cartriges and expend an entire cartrige in order to get the printer to temporarily print properly was just unacceptable.

    Laser good, inkjet bad.

I got the laser with duplex printing and it's really awesome to be able to print on both sides of the paper without having to manually flip it over. It's a nice printer but it could due with better grey scaling.

    Take care.
