    Epson Scan

    I've got my Epson RX585 installed perfectly several times now after a new install of 7.

    Install the latest Scanner driver from Epson BEFORE you switch the printer on.
    Then install the Print driver as normal.

    If you switch the printer on before installing drivers Windows install it's own, this seems to be what causes the problems. Unfortunately this only works on a new install.
    When this was first a problem for me I tried uninstalling the windows drivers, but I couldn't get the scanner to work by then installing the Epson drivers, if Windows had installed it's own first.

    Printer and Scanner works perfectly now installed in this way.

    HP HDX 16
    Epson Photo RX680

    I recently upgraded my OS from Vista to Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit). I ran a system recovery and fully updated Vista before upgrading into Windows 7. Once I tried to install “Epson Scan” software (I downloaded off from Epson website), the following messages came out:

    - "could not copy files. check the setup disk, then run the setup again"
    - "C:\Users\BENJAM~1\AppData\Local\Temp\\setup.exe"

    My only option at this point was to click “ok”
    Then a 2nd message came out:

    - "an error occured during setup. restart your computer, then run setup again"

    I ended up not able to install the “Epson Scan” at all! I tried installing the scanner driver first before installing the printer driver and before plug in the printer to the laptop. It didn’t work. I tried the “troubleshoot compatibility” feature on the installation file and chose to install the application under Vista verson. It didn’t work. I also copied the Epson Scan application off from the installation CD onto desktop and installed it from there by using troubleshoot compatibility feature. Still didn’t work at all. I wrote to Epson tech support, all they told me to do was to download the correct files at the support page for Windows 7 and they also replied me with this:

    - From your email it seems like you are having issue with the installation of the Epson Scan and Twain Driver for the Stylus Photo RX680 on Windows 7. This seems to be a system related issue. We ran a test with the Stylus Photo RX680 on Windows 7 (32 and 64 Bit) and we were not able to replicate this is issue. If you have another system I would suggest you try to install it on another system.

    Like everyone said, Epson Scan is a great software and I want to keep using it after upgraded my OS to Windows 7. So please heeeeeelp! I greatly appreciated.

    This is excellent almac! I was giving up hope already and went back to Vista. But until I read your post 2 nights ago and gave it one last try. I just had my laptop upgraded back to Windows 7 again, installed the Epson Scan and the printer driver and boom… it worked! Thankyou thankyou so much! I really appreciated and now I can fully utilize the Epson Scan again. YAY!

    Hello everyone... Just wanted to add that it is possible to make Epson Scan work after windows has installed its own drivers...

    you have to download a driver administrator like driver genius and uninstall them (if they are not listed, turn on and plug the printer to the pc)

    after that, install Epson's drivers :) worked for me..

    I was having problems scannig with an Epson DX3800. Epson Scan did not work and the w7 scan was telling me that "you need a WIA driver to use this device..."
    i tried many ways until i read that it worked by unistalling the driver but i had to remove it completely...

    Before i did that i tried something else...

    I unistalled the driver;
    turned off the printer;
    i runed the driver setup again;
    when it asked me to turn on the printer i didnt! and it said it couldn´t configure the ports, bla bla...
    closed the setup program;
    and when i turned the printer on again, window 7 installed it automaticaly and even do the epson scan didn't got fixed, i can now use the windows 7 scan option perfectly!

    hope this helps...

    Epson RX585 scanner problem (driver failed) - SOLVED

    hello, I spend about one week with my Epson RX585 scanner under Windows 7, which was not working. I try all tips on this thread, but nothing was succesfull.

    Finally I have found some tips how to solve this problem - problem was with specific registry entry - you can fix it with deleting UpperFilters and LowerFilters registry values under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class, where you will find Class for Imaging devices and simple delete registry values UpperFilters and LowerFilters, then reboot.

    Source information you can find on UpperFilters LowerFilters - How to Delete the UpperFilters and LowerFilters Registry Values

    Thats all, after one week finally my scanner is working

    Solution for Epson Scan on Windows 7 64-bit professional, RX685.

    Epson Scan did not start after all the steps described on the Epson site (points 1-6)
    Epson
    Then I tried to force manually the installation of the TWAIN driver (points 7-10).

    The complete procedure:
    1) unistalled Epson Scan and driver from the windows menu
    2) reboot
    3) installed Epson Scan for Vista-64
    4) reboot
    5) switched on the printer
    6) updated RX685 driver using the Win7-64 version

    Now Windows scanner is working (WIA-Epson RX680...), but NOT the TWAIN Epson for Epson Scan.

    Then I forced the TWAIN driver:
    7) Device and Printers -> property of "Epson Stylus Photo..."
    8) Hardware -> Property of "Epson RX680..." (Devices for image capture)
    9) driver -> Update driver -> find a driver SW on the computer -> find manually
    10) browse the dir "C:\Program Files (x86)\epson\escndv\es0084"
    inside you should find the file es84.inf

    Now Epson Scan is working fine!
    both drivers TWAIN and WIA present
    no reboot necessary

    Epson Scan gives more options and better automatic contrast and brightness, than the native Win SW.
    Just a small detail: Windows scan doesn't work when Epson Scan is open, but you can open Epson Scan when also the Windows Scan is open.

    *** my Win7 is an italian version, so I am not sure about the english translations for menu voices and tab titles
