    Secunia PSI 3.0 Final Released

Secunia has released the final version of PSI 3.0. Its a little better then the Beta but most people seem to be going back to 2.0 which is still supported.

Just install 3.0 today and give it a try. I wasn't very happy with the early ones.

I sure hope they continue to support V.2. Or add an advanced option to further versions so I can have control and see the Safe Browsing screen. A Guy

SUPPORT FOR OLDER VERSIONS OF PSI

This information was released by a Secunia Official on this Forum on 28th March 2012 in answer to a query.

"PSI 2.x and 1.x are still supported, and will be with no current plans to discontinue them"

This statement is further supported by an entries in the FAQ referring to Troubleshooting for Version 1,2 & 3 here:

    Version 1.5.0.2 (Supported) http://secunia.com/PSI1Setup.exe
    Version 2.0.0.4003 (Supported) http://secunia.com/PSI2Setup.exe
    Version 3.0.0.2003/2004 (Supported) https://secunia.com/PSISetup.exe

It has been about a week since I received the PSI email about ver. 3.0.2xx3/4, and I thought I'd better check on upgrading as I had ver 2.0.1xxx.

I should have tried 3.0 for myself, but after I read all of the comments I decided I did not want a version that on the face of it was designed as/for a mobil app, and not for a full fledged OS, so, I upgraded to 2.0.4003, and everything is as I was used to.

One thing that stuck me as odd was when I upgraded, the PSI Installer had to uninstall the older version first before it could do the upgrade, okay, that's normal.

Here's the odd part, when it finished my IE browser opened automatically and Secunia wanted to know why I was uninstalling the old PSI, here's what I wrote, and sent:

I had 2.0.1xxx, received email to upgrade to 3.0.

Went to forum, and found out how bad 3.0 is then found out PSI didn't even update itself because 2.0.4xxx was available for some time.

All I'm doing is upgrading, BUT, only to 2.0.4xxx from what I've read you can keep 3.0.2xx3 or 4
Some Users concerns culled from listed Source, and the discrepancy about whether its ver 3.0.2003 or 4:
I see no option to exclude applications anymore
I have no option to schedule a scan weekly (or whatever)
I cannot see "what version" of a program is installed
I cannot see any statistic (not really neccessary, but at least very "interesting"

I will absolutely stick to version 2 (2.0.0.4003) as new version 3 does not offer :
    - advanced mode
    - alphabetical detailed list of the scan results (the new icon list is really not comfortable)
    - secure browsing option (which I find very useful and was a great feature of version 2)
    - possibility to stop a scan

    - BTW, there is a problem with this new version 3 : after installation, PSI detects version 3.0.0.2004 , the *.exe file of the installation folder says 3.0.0.2004 BUT right-clicking on the systray icon, "About" mentions version 3.0.0.2003 ..... Rather confusing ... :-(

    - possibility to rescan one program only (after an update); with version 3, you have to rescan completely

Version 3.0.2 installer pack is almost twice as large as previous versions, 3.1MB
    Version 2.0.4 1.7MB
    Version 1.5.0 738kB

Thanks Steve. It looks like they were looking for a wider audience. But I hope they remember us long time users. I use the online version before they released the PSI. A Guy

Back again. I discovered a problem late on in the day. After installing 3.0 I was unable to use Hulu because their was no Adobe flash. After some time spent looking through things I found that I surly had Flash install and updated it was just disabled in Firfox 13.0.1 only. Enabled it and things worked as they should. PSI 3.0 download and used was the only thing different I did on my computer so I presume it caused the problem.

Did you have PSI 3.0 set to Auto-Update. I believe there is a history button so you can see if it may have updated Flash.

I never set anything to auto update. I just removed the program with Revo. I will try it again in a week or so.

Looks like an update to 3.0 will be coming out soon. Hope its better.

I can confirm that a list view will be added in the upcoming version, that will be released in the end of July.

Also, the version information in the right-click > help, will be corrected.

Some users have had some performance issues with PSI 3, which our development team is working on fixing as well.

The coming PSI release will also provide a link to the relevant Secunia Advisory
