I saw that post earlier about the trying an older version of truecrypt but that dident
work, I thank the person that suggested that.

Shit I just don't understand it how the pass can fail on both drives and its the same password.

Just another thought, but if you use Windows Explorer to view the contents of your external drive, you don't happen to see a little padlock symbol on the icon for your TrueCpryt vault? I have had Windows lock other files on my non system HDD's, where I wasn't able to access the contents until I changed the security permissions for that particular folder.

Sorry I can't be of more help. Perhaps someone else will have other options for you to try.

You have been a big help, I would never have thought about the suggestions you gave. I really hope I get to fix this soon I have so many important files stored.

I know how frustrating this must be. I have used TrueCrypt for quite a few years and haven't any problems other than not being able to open older vaults with a newer program version. The only thing I might do differently than you is too install the TrueCrypt program on the same drive as the vault, rather than on my system "C" drive. I have 3 different backup HDD's with both TrueCrypt and a vault installed on them and have never had a single issue.

Hi,

Can you check to see that the truecrypt service is still running? It should be in automatic mode when you boot the PC.

Regards,
Golden

Yeah its still running and good on boot. When you said this I started to think of something, I recently changed the truecrypt password on my laptop to a shorter password before this with the external-hardrives happened.

Could it be that the passwords on the external-hardrives arnt working because of this.

Should I try an decrypt my laptop.
