    Help Microsoft DirectX

    A fresh install windows 7 64 bit sp1.

Windows 7 64bit sp1 has a built in Directx 11... but i think some games need different directx. Right?

I use the Microsoft Web installer

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl...ils.aspx?id=35

And let it update but i got error when installing it.

An internal system error occurred. Please refer to DXError.log and DirectX.log in your windows folder to determine the problem.

    My question...

    1. Are this the same? Will i loose nothing?

    Microsoft web installer
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl...ils.aspx?id=35

    Microsoft directx_Jun2010_redist.exe
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl...s.aspx?id=8109

    2. Are this the latest version 9.29.1974?. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl...s.aspx?id=8109

After downloading the full installer the version is only 9.0.8112.16421 very confusing.

3.I have this directx_jun2010_redist full installer on my other computer but the version is 8.0.7600.16385. So this is not the latest right?

    4. Should i go for the Microsoft directx_Jun2010_redist.exe version 9.29.1974?
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl...s.aspx?id=8109

Or try again the web installer?

If you have windows 7 sp1 it comes with DX1- any game that uses DX 10/DX 9 etc. will still be able to play, as long as your graphics card can handle it. The DX11 that comes with Win7 is just the capability to run DX11 games - DX11 is able to run DX8,9,10 games - it all comes down to your computer and graphics card - if they can handle it, its playable.

The web installer is buggy and hit or miss for most. Use the full redistributable instead. And no you won't lose anything.

DX11 in WIndows 7 is supposed to be a superset of the older DX versions, but the redist (redistributable, or stand-alone) will install some additional files that some older applications may require.

Seems unlikely, but I had to do it on one occasion.
