Instead of holding on the power button, have you tried just pressing it for a second to see if it does resume that way?

yeah still no success. only way i can get my computer to do anything after sleep is to hold the power button so the computer total shuts down.. boot it back up.. and resume windows.

Explorer only crashes AFTER the computer wakes up from sleep or hibernation. It crashes when I try to run a program from the start menu. As I described above, the start menu freezes ... and the message "Explorer has stopped working" pops up.

Do you have gadgets, or anything else that runs interactively with the Desktop?

I have not had problems with resuming from sleep in a long time now - but I also haven't had RocketDock installed in a long time, and I wonder if that was the root of my previous woes....

Win. Media Player pops up after sleep & other glitches

Among other annoyances with Windows 7, Windows Media Player always pops up on the screen when it wakes up after sleep. I cannot find a way to turn this off. Can't even find a startup folder which must be there somewhere that might control it. GRRR!

Among other glitches, Windows 7 has a habit of stalling and spinning its wheels with no apparent way of killing the offending program, forcing me to re-boot and start again.

There appears to be no Task Manager in the system. Ctrl-Alt-Del does nothing.

The system is a clean install of Windows 7-64 Home Premium in a Core-2 quad processor with 8 GB of RAM.

Try rebuilding the prefecht folder:

In the command prompt type

del %windir%\prefetch\*.* /q
start %windir%\system32\rundll32.exe advapi32.dll, ProcessIdleTasks
