not windows seven, windows xp. need to get rid of norton. won't let me

hey guys, i know this isn't for windows xp, but you guys are great, so i thought i would give it a try. i am trying to get rid of norton. it came with the computer. i just got the thing for free, so i can't complain. however, i can't get norton off of it. i have tried to uninstall it, but it won't let me. it says norton must shut down, and then asks me if i want to send an error report.

    Any ideas??? I am stuck.
    Thanks guys

Allen, Norton has an option in it's "Settings" titled "Norton Product Tamper Protection". Norton may attempt to stop an action that would destroy Norton unless you turn off the Tamper Protection option. Actually it's designed to stop malware from tampering with your antivirus.

Also, here is the link for Norton's own "Norton Removal Tool".

I use "Your Uninstaller" at Your Uninstaller! 7 - Uninstall any unwanted software/program completely. Download for free.
It came highly recomended, and I've used it for about 3 years.
It's not free, but it's a very good uninstaller and easy to use.
