    FileHippo Update Checker

    Hello
This program was running well in Win 7 x 64 and suddenly stopped responding.
I have searched the internet and apparently I am not the only one who has this problem. I have tried both MSIE9 and FF. I also reinstalled the program.
Does anyone have any information regarding this?
    Thank you
    Peter

I use the stand alone version, and had it in Programfiles(x86), and it hasn't worked for a while. Seeing this thread I moved it to Programfiles, and it works fine there. Also works on desktop, etc. Just FYI. You can download the stand alone on the same page as the installer.

Odd, I have both and neither work for me at the moment. Standalone version gets stuck at "sending date for analysis"

    FileHippo Update checker

If you stilll have no big Giraffe yet, try reinstalling.

Does anyone think this update checker, Secunia and WinPatrol are over lapping to the point where one of these does not belong?

I found Secunia and FileHippo update checker to serve somewhat different purposes in that the former leaned more to vulnerabilities and the latter more toward updates.

I just tried WinPatrol and it seems to be able to detect if UAC was disturbed but had no other apps I really really need.

Ccleaner has a startup app for example.

All of your mentioned programs I have used and conceder them good. We each select programs to fit our needs. Some programs are more necessary on multi user PC's. I have chosen Filehippo Up Date Checker because I turn off all automatic updates. Once or twice a day I can check for updates in many programs using Up Date Checker. Many updates for programs like Flash are for security reasons. Ccleaner does many things and I like most of them so I use it. Win Patrol is very good but I use the UAC to take care of things like that. Win Patrol Pro does many more things. You might want to check it out. I tried Secunia a few week ago and I had problems so I don't use it now. They probably have it fixed by now. Many of these 3rd party programs are what I use for a layered security protection. No one security programs catches or can find everything.
