That is built into Windows 7 for most UPS systems. I have a Cyberpower and an APC UPS and both were detected by Windows (USB). I also have an icon in the notification area (lower right) for the UPS and the amount of battery charge.
With the UPS connected, go to Personalize/Screen Saver/Change Power Settings. In the power plan will be options for the UPS. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number My Own Build OS Windows 7, 64 bit Home SP1, Win 8 Pro 64 bit CPU Intel i7 3770 Motherboard Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H Memory 16GB GSkill Ripsaw F3-14900CL9Q-16GBXL Graphics Card Sapphire HD7770 Sound Card RealTek Monitor(s) Displays Viewsonic VA2448 Series 24" LED Screen Resolution 1920X1080 Keyboard Kensington wired Mouse Logitech Wireless PSU Antec High Current Gamer HCG-620M Modular Case Coolermaster HAF XM Cooling Corsair H80 Liquid cooling with aftermarket Nexus quiet fans Hard Drives 240GB Intel 520 SSD for Win 7

Welcome
What is used by me and many of the senior members of the forum is the APC, UPS
Uninterruptable Power Supply. You will be satisfied. http://www.apc.com/products/category.cfm?id=13
It gives all the information that you mentioned, in addition it is a surge protector with back up battery, so you do not have an unexpected shutdown, which can lose your stuff and damage the computer.
Its hardware, but it is essential to have and to use. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell XPS 420 OS Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, clean install, upgrade disc CPU Intel Core2 processsor Q8200(2.33Ghz 1333FSB) Quad Core Tech Motherboard Dell Memory 6 gb Graphics Card ATI Radeon 256MB HD3650 Sound Card Intergrated 7.1 Channel Audio Monitor(s) Displays Dell SP2009W 20" Keyboard Dell USB Keyboard Mouse Dell Premium Optical USB Cooling Fan Hard Drives 640 GB Serial ATA Hard drive Internet Speed DSL 2.85 |

Hi BoogieBoy,
I have an APC and a CyberPower UPS, I use the software that was included with the UPS.
They both have the features that you mentioned including logging, monitoring and controlled shutdown of the PC.
The CyberPower has the additional feature of having a desktop gadget that shows the current power consumption, power source (line or battery), battery state of charge and projected run time on the battery at the current power consumption. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Build OS Windows 7 Home Premium x64 CPU Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme QX9650 Motherboard Gigabyte EP45-UD3R Memory 2x2GB Kingston Hyper-X PC2-6400 Graphics Card EVGA GTX 560 Ti SC Sound Card Realtek on-board Monitor(s) Displays Asus PA246Q + Hannspree HF-257 Screen Resolution 1920x1200 + 1920x1080 Keyboard El Cheapo Mouse Logitech M-BZ105A PSU Antec 650W Case Cooler Master HAF 932 Cooling EVGA Superclock Hard Drives Samsung 830 128GB |

Sorry i forgot to mention my UPS does'nt have any USB cable so i'll have to use the good old Comm Port Cable and my UPS is SVC 1200VA (about 750Watts) it has everything like Auto Voltage Regulator, Surge Protection and few more features which a good UPS shoud have but i bet none of you have ever even heard of this name before it's an Offline UPS but works good just had to replace the first batteries that came with it installed after 1 and half year than had bad experience with the one's i bought which were chinese made and they did'nt last 6 months so i bought new pair of Lead Acid which are made in Taiwan they seem to be better than the chinese ones i bought before but who know's are they actually better or not so i wanna use Software which will show everything in windows like Battery Status, Load on the UPS, Readings etc.
@ Zepher
i hope this APC software will work with my UPS too and the pic of the model im using is below i know that APC is the best company in the world for UPS but they are really really expensive in my country.. for example if 1 APC UPS costs $200 USD in USA so here same thing cost $600 USD that's 200% more price and there's no way we can get them by ordering online and get the delivery without paying the customs and everything which will cost same $600 after paying or even more!.. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Self Built OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 CPU Waiting for Haswell Motherboard Waiting for Haswell Memory G.Skill Ripjaws X 2x 2GB DDR3 1333 CL7 Graphics Card Will be next after Haswell Sound Card Built-In Monitor(s) Displays Samsung 933BW Plus Screen Resolution 1440x900 Keyboard A4Tech X7 G800 Mouse A4Tech X7 XL-747h + X7 801 Mouse Pad PSU Cooler Master GX-550w 80 Plus Bronze Case Cooler Master Elite 430 Black Cooling Waiting for Haswell Hard Drives Will buy after getting upcoming Haswell Internet Speed 4MB Cable Broadband Other Info Lamptron FC-5 V2 Fan Controller | Lamptron Dual CCFL Kit (Blue) | Liteon iHAS 322-07B DVD-RW | Xigmatek XLF-F1253 | CM 2x 120mm's | SVC 1.2KVA Off-line UPS |
