    Gimp 2.8 Released

    GIMP 2.8.2 released (2012-08-24)

We've just released GIMP 2.8.2, the first update to the new stable version of GIMP. The update brings several dozens of fixes to various issues of all scales.

Most notorious bugs fixed are: not being able to remember JPEG saving options, slow canvas redraw, not showing page setup options on Windows. There's also a workaround for the bug that used to cause showing incorrect file size values on Windows.

For the complete list of changes please see the NEWS file.

I've been using GIMP 2.8.2 since 6-Sept-2012 and it seems to work as expected.

I am having problems with a couple of my filter/effects scripts even though they are supposed to be for GIMP 2.8 (GIMP 2.8 Script-FU pack).

The new single window mode works well.
I prefer the GIMP UI to Photoshop's cluttered mess (and hidden tools).
Occasionally I have problems activating the image section though.

I also like the way it now tells you if you have exported an image (path\file) before closing it.

    hi lehnerus2000,

Thanks for providing a real world review. I've been waiting for the single window build for a long time. Could never find just the right tool/tab/window option/size - the 2nd window always got in the way of my work.

I've used gimp for a long time - it is a very powerful tool for the price (free). I probably only use about 20% of the features - there's a whole lot of things I don't know enough about - gimp is on par with professional image manipulation apps.

    No problems

I've used GIMP for 5 or 6 years.
IMO, it's worthwhile upgrading to GIMP 2.8.2.

I don't like the way they've changed the adjustment sliders.
I've only had problems with 2 or 3 scripts out of ~100 that are in the GIMP 2.8 Script-FU pack.

If you have "Saved Options" from earlier GIMP versions (like Text settings), you should back up your GIMP AppData folder, before installing the new version, as they have changed the way that works.

I know how to do what I want in GIMP (in general) so I find it much easier to use than Photoshop.

The standard tools in Photoshop (like brushes) are better (e.g. more adjustments).
