    Problem with removing Trend

Have an oldish Toshiba A200 running 32bit Vista and have removed Trend via Revo and it does not apparel in either that or Programs and Features. I have also run the Trend removal tool which I am not real sure worked.

I do however find it listed in regedit under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / Software / TrendMicro but cannot delete the entry either as a whole or the individual components. I get an error message to say "Cannot delete **** - error while deleting key"

    Any ideas please?

Sometimes it works to remove an entry in the registry by trying to change permissions. Go to the entry in the left hand pane of Registry Editor and left click on it. A screen will pop up that shows an entry called "permissions". Open it and go to "advanced" where you can try and take "full control" of the key. Like I mentioned sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, but maybe someone more knowlegable than me can give you further aid.

One more thing. You probably know this already, but I always make a backup of my registry before tinkering with things.

I was just re reading my post and I noticed I said to "left click" on the entry and it should be "right click". My bad.

No go mate it has a listing in there that has Creator (not inheirted) whatever that means except I suspect it might have been part of the bloat.

I have tried the admin and users lines but same result.

Well, it was worth a try. The same thing has happened to me and while it is irritating, it is not critical to the way your OS runs to leave it as is.

It's been a long time past when I used Trend but I do remember having to use safe mode to remove it. Also when in safe mode check Services, if it is in there/their you will have to stop the service before all can be removed. Then I went back to normal mode and used a little program Search Everything to hunt down the little that was left over. Because a anti virus has to monitor all the little nicks and crannies it is stuck all through the operating system.
Use caution when using Search Everything. When it removes something it's gone. A mistake could be hell.

Thanks Layback Bear I might give that a whirl as the safe mode didn't work either it's a really stubborn thing. :)

Hey Layback Bear that worked!! I found a whole host of Trend stuff and deleted the lot all but a couple that keep telling me they are open in another folder. Now I have found that going through one by one and opening the folders there are entires that I can delete so although it might be tedious at least I can try that.

Will let you know how it goes - thanks for the tip!!
