i have also downloaded VLC Media player but i don't think my laptop is compatible with it as it does nothing . After a quišk search i find that my ACER 6930G only works with cyber link ??

I believe that what you're doing wrong is trying to find a freeware Blu Ray player. I think that none exist that will play copy protected disks. (They may work if you have a copy protection removal tool like AnyDVD HD, but that's not free either.)

The least expensive way to get a Blu Ray player may be to buy the latest version of the Nero suite. I haven't tried it.

Did your PC come with any CD/DVDs? It may include the Power DVD version that may have the serial# on the label.

VLC will play Blu ray if you do some modifications.

THEN ... you should have attempted a restore instead of a clean install. With a restore, you would have automatically reinstalled all the stuff that came preloaded with the PC -- a mixed blessing.

If you don't have restore media, or a way to do a restore, you could try contacting Acer and see if they will sell you full restore media. Check their price against that of a new version of Cyberlink Power DVD (I think it's up to version 12 now).
