    Java 7 or 8 runtimes?

Hi, I have a doubt about the new version of Java runtime. Java 8 has been released a while ago, and I'm tempted into installing it, but what about the older Java 7 runtime?

Oracle stills "recommends" 7, and searching for a while I haven't came across a convincing answer.
What I should do? Or what is the best or safest approach?

Install both side by side? (as Java 8 don't replaces Java 7 runtimes)
Uninstall 7 and keep 8? Maybe there can be compatibility issues?
Just keep 7 to its latest update as it's now? I haven't come to a program that requires it, but in the long run they'll appear.
    Something else?

    Thanks!

    Here is the answer:

    https://www.java.com/en/download/faq/java8.xml

The new release of Java is first made available to developers to ensure no major problems are found before we make it available on the java.com website for end users to download. If you are interested in trying Java 8 it can be downloaded from Oracle.com.

    Great, thanks!.
I've downloaded from this link in their page:
Java SE Runtime Environment 8 - Downloads

Which is meant to just run programs (my case). It's rare that it don't points out that it's only meant as a trial before the full release, a beta essentially.
Guess there is no need to install those right now, I'll remain at 7 as for now.
    Thanks!
