Photoshop not an option in program defaults for .psd extentions

Hi, i am trying to force .psd extension to be opened by photoshop.

Here is the problem, on my new HP system my C drive is only for windows 7 OS, no personal installs just OS, the C drive has very limed space.

I use my E drive for everything other than OS as it has all the space i need.

So i tried to set .psd files to photoshop thru both registry and also thru control panel. It does not even show me the option for photoshop and when i use browse to select it, it just ignores me.

When i tried to mod the registry, i could not change the user choice parameter, cannot edit it or change it at all.

Photoshop cs3 is on my system, i copied it over from my old computer and photoshop is working fine, it does not show in programs but it does work.

Any ideas how i can force .psd ext to be opened by photoshop in its current location?

And if not how do i take it off paint, i cannot seem to get it off paint default no matter what i do?

But to associate a file with any program, right click a .psd file, "Open with" "Choose default program", on that page make sure "Always use the selected program..." is checked, then click "Browse". Then search for the photoshop.exe on your photoshop install folder and select it.

Thanks, this is exactly what i did, and it just igores me, when i choose E:\Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended\photoshop.exe it just acts as like i never chose anything and is still waiting for a selection. I dont know why.

Ok now what lol, i uninstalled and then reinstalled in program files x86 dir which was the default of the program and it still will not let me assign .psd, it still does not even see the photoshop applicate on the assign program list. really strange stuff.

Yeah i tried that first time and just tried it again, i even moved the photoshop files from programfiles x86 to just program files to see if it would work. Now when i browse it sees the adobe folder right off in c program files but when i go inside and click on photoshop app file, it wont recognize it.

I also tried to set photoshop as run as admin and also run in xp sp3 compat mode and still nothing. As a test i clicked on a dll file inside the photoshop dir just to see if it would see that and yes now i have a dll file as one of my choices in the default list grrrr... but it just will not put the photoshop app file there. really strange.

So now all my .psd are set to paint but paint cant open .psd files, so unless i can reset it somehow to nothing or change it to photoshop, i have to open photoshop up and manually open each file.

Update i did manage to reset it at least to nothing by deleting the .psd folder in fileext in the registry but still will not show photoshop.

Anyone know how to remove an option from the list of avial programs, i want to remove the dll choice i did as a test before. I dont want the dll file listed in the options.

No that wont help. I need to find a way to remove an item from MuiCache is all, everytime i remove it, it comes right back at restart.
