Trouble installing iTunes 9 on brand new laptop running Windows 7

My husband bought me a brand new laptop from Best Buy and also recently purchased an iPod touch for me for Mother's day. I had downloaded iTunes 9 on my old laptop (before getting this new one), the old computer was running Windows XP and I did not encounter any problems installing iTunes 9 & using it to get my Touch started.

I wish to install iTunes 9 on the new computer to use for playing, storing, and burning CDs but when the download is complete and I start going through the installation process, at the very end of it all I get an error message saying that the installer detected an error and the installation could not be completed...and then something about try installing later. I would have copied and pasted the message but I am in a bit of a hurry and I don't have time to sit through the whole download again to get the message.

Anyway, I can follow directions but if anyone has any help to offer please put the information in lamens terms...I'm very familiar with computers and other forms of technology but after wasting all day trying to solve this on my own I just want someone who can help to give me the simple steps to solve this problem so I can get iTunes up and running.

    Thanks,
    Jenna

Redownload the Installer. It's probably corrupt.

This and make sure if you are running a 64bit windows that you install 64bit itunes. I ran into this problem when I was trying to install 32bit. Also run the install by right clicking and choose run as admistrator.

Here is the link to the 64bit installer, they kind of hide it on their site

    Info

Welcome to the Windows 7 Support Forums,
Jenny would you please fill out your system specs in your profile area. Also which version of Windows 7 is installed on your new Laptop? 64 bit or 32 bit.
After that we can begin to assist you.

Okay, so I filled out the appropriate fields in the system specs area of my profile...maybe that helps? I have the Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. When trying to install iTunes 9, yes, I was downloading and attempting to install the 64-bit version and not the 32-bit.

When you say "Redownload the Installer"...how exactly do I do this? Since iTunes has never been successfully installed on this computer, there is nothing in my Program Files folder, Downloads folder, or in the Add/Remove Programs area. So, I guess I am not sure what is being suggested as I have downloaded iTunes about 8 times...each time, the download completes successfully but it's when I get to the installation process that it comes to the very end and the error message comes up and gives me only one option--to click "Finish", to exit the installer without the program being successfully installed. When they say "redownload" they mean go to Apple's website and download the file... Apple - iTunes - Download iTunes Now

You also need to make sure you get the correct file, ie 32 or 64-bit. This is why you're asked to fill out your system specs. As of now we "still" don't know which version of 7 you're running... 32 or 64???

    Good luck.

Did you read my last comment? I said I am running 64-bit and also clarified that, yes, I was downloading the 64-bit iTunes app.

And as for "redownloading", how is downloading it again for the 10th time going to solve the problem? Like I have said before, I have downloaded the 64-bit version of iTunes 9 several times (about 8 or 9 to be exact) and the same EXACT thing happens every time.

I'm just confused why there is even an issue in the first place...iTunes 9 came out quite a while ago and Windows 7 isn't exactly brand new either. Why would there be any compatability issues with the two? And why am I having issues with a brand new computer. I was able to install and use iTunes 9 no problems with my old laptap that was infected with multiple viruses and spyware during the time we were shopping around for a new laptop. It's just weird...and kind of pisses me off that I am wasting even more time with this brand new computer than I did with an infected one. Go figure.

After you confirm the removal of all Apple Software including "Bonjour" Service in the program section we will move on to the installation.
