Windows 7: Windows Mobile Device Center Installation not working correctly

I am trying to install Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 (drvupdate-amd64.exe), but can't seem to get it to work correctly.

This is what is happening:
1. I ran the drvupdate-amd64.exe as administrator, the setup starts. Says configuring...
2. After a while, the configuring screen goes away and the drvupdate-amd64.exe is still running, as well as driver_setup.exe - it's been running for like over an hour now.

When I go to control panel -> programs and features, I see Windows Mobile Device Center Driver and that's it.

When I go to programs, I see Windows Mobile Device Center, but clicking on it does nothing.

What's the problem here

I'm on a windows7 professional machine that is 64-bit.
